Often we get the following error message while doing some changes in the sqlserver table in design mode.
Saving changes is not permitted. The changes you have made require the following tables to be dropped and re-created. You have either made changes to a table that can’t be re-created or enabled the option Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created.
If we create a new column or change an existing columns name or data type or if we change the column order using table design mode, we may get this error.
So there are 2 possible cases for this error message. Either the table cannot be re-created or an option prevents it to be re-created. Most of the time it occurs due to the second case. So how can we fix this? We need to change the options.
- Go to Tools->Options
- Expand the Designers node.
- Select Table and Database Designers.
- Uncheck the checkbox that says Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created
Now try to save the table in the design view. It works.
